In keeping with my generalist slant, I attended an employment law event earlier this week. It was put on by these guys.We discussed various situations where a company may need to dismiss employees- redundancy, retirement, ill health and gross misconduct.
It was quite enlightening for me. I come from an American business background, so exposure to UK law is very helpful. Also it adds to my body of knowledge- integrating all elements of an organisation. Lastly, I work at a small company where we don’t have lawyers and a full HR department to handle these issues.
I’ve saved the materials for future reference. Hopefully, I won't need them.
